YunoTheMenu LLC ("YunoTheMenu," "we," "us," or "our") operates the YunoTheMenu mobile application and the website at yunothemenu.com (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Phone number. We collect your mobile phone number when you create an account. Your phone number is used to send you a one-time verification code via SMS to authenticate your identity. We do not use your phone number for marketing.
- Profile information. Display name, profile photo (optional), and any biographical details you choose to add.
- Dietary preferences. The dietary conditions, restrictions, and allergies you configure within the app.
- User-generated content. Photos, reviews, ratings, and menu item interactions you create within the Service.
- Friend connections. The social graph you build by connecting with other users.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Location data. With your permission, we collect your device's approximate or precise location to show you nearby restaurants and enable location-dependent features, including verifying whether you are physically present at a restaurant for certain free features. You may decline location access, in which case certain features will be limited but the core app remains functional.
- Device and usage information. Device type, operating system version, app version, and usage analytics to improve the Service.
- Device identifier. We generate and store a persistent identifier tied to your app install to manage one-time free features and to detect and prevent abuse. This identifier is not linked to your phone number or other personal identifiers unless you create an account.
- In-app activity. We log the menu items you view and the search queries you make within the app. This information is tied to your account and is used to personalize the Service, improve search relevance, and generate aggregate analytics. Raw search queries are not shared publicly.
- Log data. IP address, access times, and error logs for security and debugging.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Apple Sign In / Google Sign In (where applicable): Name and email address, only if you choose to link these accounts.
- Google Places API: Public business information about restaurants (not your personal data).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Authenticate your identity via SMS one-time passcodes
- Provide and personalize the Service, including dietary filtering of restaurant menus
- Enable social features such as friend connections, shared reviews, and photos
- Show you relevant restaurants based on your location and preferences
- Communicate with you about account security, service updates, and support inquiries
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues
- Comply with legal obligations
2.1 Automated Processing and AI
Some features of the Service rely on automated processing by third-party AI providers:
- Menu scanning. When you scan a menu, the image is sent to OpenAI to extract the text of menu items, descriptions, prices, and modifier options. The text is then processed by OpenAI a second time to identify likely ingredients and preparation methods for dietary filtering. These images and the resulting text are processed on our behalf and are not used by OpenAI to train its models.
- Photo safety review. When you upload a photo, it is sent to Anthropic for automated review. The review checks whether the photo is safe, whether it contains food, and whether it contains a human face. Face detection is used to prevent photos containing faces from being selected as public "Cover Shots" — we do not generate, store, or transmit any biometric identifier or face template, only a yes/no signal about whether a face is present in the image. The review also checks photo quality (blur, lighting) and whether the photo appears to match the menu item.
- Content moderation. Photos that fail the safety review, or that receive user reports, may be automatically removed from the Service without prior notice. You may appeal a removal by contacting us at the email below.
- Menu translation. Menu item text is sent to Google Translate to produce translations in supported languages.
Except where required to provide these features, we do not use automated processing to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
3. SMS Messaging and Mobile Information
3.1 SMS Consent
When you enter your phone number and request a verification code, you consent to receive an SMS message from YunoTheMenu containing a one-time passcode. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies based on your usage (typically one message per sign-in attempt).
3.2 No Sharing for Marketing
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors in support of services we provide to you (such as our SMS delivery provider, Twilio) is permitted. All other use categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
3.3 Opt-Out and Help
You may opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us. For help, reply HELP or contact us at the email address below. Opting out of SMS will prevent you from using phone-based authentication and may limit your ability to use the Service.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:
- Service providers. We use trusted third-party providers to operate the Service, including:
- Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage infrastructure)
- Twilio (SMS delivery for verification codes)
- Apple App Store / Google Play (app distribution and in-app purchases)
- OpenAI (menu image text extraction and dietary property tagging)
- Anthropic (automated photo safety review, including face detection)
- Google (restaurant location data via Google Places, menu translation, and map display)
- Other users. Content you create in the Service — such as reviews, photos, awards, and profile details — is shared with other users based on the visibility rules of the feature. By default, reviews, photos, and awards are visible only to people who follow you (and who you have not blocked). Certain public content, such as photos selected as "Cover Shots" for a menu item, may be visible to all users of the Service, including people who are not signed in. You can control your visibility through your privacy settings and by managing your followers.
- Legal compliance. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of YunoTheMenu, our users, or others.
- Business transfers. If YunoTheMenu is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
5. Your Choices and Rights
- Access and update. You may access and update most of your profile information directly within the app.
- Location permissions. You may enable or disable location access at any time in your device settings.
- Account deletion. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the email below. Deletion is typically processed within 30 days.
- Block and report. You may block other users and report content directly within the app.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, encrypted storage, and row-level security on our database. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for users under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
9. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
